Kettering University Announces Summer 2023 Dean's List

Kettering University congratulates nearly 250 students who were named to the Summer 2023 Dean's List. The Dean's List recognizes overall academic performance based on the student's term grade point average (GPA). To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must satisfy the following requirements: be a degree-seeking student with a minimum term grade point average of 3.5, no grades below B, and a minimum of 16 earned credits for the term.

Kettering University Student Receives NSBE Scholarship

NV5 Global Inc. announced Kettering University's Kimberly Betty is one of the 10 recipients of the 2023 NV5 National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) scholarships. The scholarships were awarded to undergraduate and graduate students across the country studying a variety of disciplines, including civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, geomatics, and computer science.

Alpha Pi Mu Initiates New Members

Alpha Pi Mu, the Industrial Engineering honor society, initiated two new members during a ceremony Sept. 12. To qualify for membership, students must be in the top 20% of their junior class or top 33% of their senior class and exhibit positive character traits.

Order of Omega Initiates New Members

The Eta Eta chapter of the Order of Omega initiated 12 new members Aug. 29. Order of Omega is the premier leadership honor society for members of fraternity and sorority organizations. Order of Omega recognizes upperclassmen who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership and involvement within their respective organization and within the fraternity/sorority, campus and local community. Members share the common goal of recognizing the many outstanding student leaders at their institution.

Gamma Sigma Alpha Initiates New Members

The Delta Zeta chapter of Gamma Sigma Alpha National Academic Greek Honor Society initiated 20 new members across eight chapters Aug. 29. Gamma Sigma Alpha National Academic Greek Honor Society (GSA) is the premier organization committed to the academic success of our members and alignment with the academic missions of our host institutions. Students are eligible for membership based on grade point average and membership in a Greek fraternity or sorority. To be eligible, students must have a minimum of 39 completed credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale). Or, students with a 3.5 GPA in any semester during their junior or senior year are eligible to apply for membership in Gamma Sigma Alpha.

SWE Recognizes Kettering University Alumna with Outstanding Collegiate Member Award

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) announced Olivia Wright '23 will receive one of its Outstanding Collegiate Member Awards at its WE23 conference Oct. 26-28 in Los Angeles. The award is presented to SWE collegiate members with SWE collegiate involvement who have made an outstanding contribution to SWE, other engineering organizations, their community and campus.

The Delta Phi chapter of Rho Lambda initiated three new members Aug. 23. The organization honors women within the Greek community who have been outstanding in the display of demonstrated leadership, ability and loyalty to the Greek community and their sororities.

Two Esports Players Named All-NACE at Annual Conference

Two members of the Kettering University "Rainbow Six Siege" varsity team were named All-NACE at the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) National Convention in Indianapolis. The NACE named two teams at the conference July 11-13. Nolan Jones '24 received Team 1 honors while Charlie Sweet '24 earned a spot on Team 2. For comparison, this is similar to a traditional athlete receiving First- and Second-Team All-America honors. To read more, click here.

The Zeta Theta A and B chapters of Sigma Chi were recognized with the J. Dwight. Peterson Significant Chapter Blue Award at the Krach Transformational Leaders Workshop in Bowling Green, Ohio. The event was Aug. 1-5.

Kettering Student Living Life in the Fast Lane

Conner Zbozien '26 gives new meaning to the phrase "learning curve." Zbozien, a Mechanical Engineering major, expertly negotiates many curves while racing Outlaw Super Late Models. He placed third in the Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee Memorial 150 in Flat Rock on July 22. With three races left this season, Zbozien leads the point standings at Flat Rock Speedway.

Varsity 'Rainbow Six Siege' Team Wins National Championship

The Kettering University varsity "Rainbow Six Siege" team can add a national championship to its list of accomplishments. The team defeated Oklahoma Christian University 3-0 in the virtual National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) National Championship on June 14. The national championship is the University's first since the Esports program started in January 2020. "Rainbow Six Siege" is a multiplayer game in which teams defend their areas of a map from competing teams. The NECC National Championship was a culmination tournament based on a points system. Teams earned points based on their finishes in fall and spring tournaments. The top four teams with the most points earned a spot in the National Championship. Kettering defeated the University of Louisville 2-0 in the semifinals before moving on to the finals. To read more, click here.

A-Section Eta Mu Chapter of Sigma Nu Wins Rock Chapter Award

Sigma Nu Fraternity recently awarded its Rock Chapter Award for the 2021-23 Biennium to the A-Section Eta Mu Chapter. The award is presented to chapters that have achieved excellence in all areas of chapter operations during a period of at least two years. Only 21 chapters in the country received this award.

The Dean's List recognizes overall academic performance based on the student's term grade point average (GPA). To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must satisfy the following requirements: be a degree-seeking student with a minimum term grade point average of 3.5, no grades below B, and a minimum of 16 earned credits for the term.

Sigma Pi Sigma Initiates New Members

The Physics and Astronomy Honor Society, Sigma Pi Sigma, initiated new members June 8. To qualify for membership, students must be a junior or senior, have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0, completed at least four physics courses of three credits or more with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 for those courses and be in the top 33% of their graduating class.

Several students were honored at the 2023 B-Section Physics Club Awards on June 8. Students who provide outstanding service to the physics program and University receive the Outstanding Service Award. Some recipients were recognized for their service as supplemental instruction (SI) leaders for Introductory Physics and others were recognized for their service as executive board members of the Physics Club.

Several students were honored at the 2023 B-Section Physics Club Awards on June 8. The Outstanding Physics Performance Award is given to students with excellent performance in introductory physics courses and typically completed the sequence during the past academic year.

Kettering Intelligent Ground Vehicle Team Takes Third Place at Competition

The students on Kettering's Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) team felt stressed ahead of the annual competition, but their hard work earned them a third-place finish. The team, which consisted of the undergraduate and graduate-level Introduction to Autonomous Driving (CE-451 and CE-651) classes, competed June 2-5 at the 30th Annual IGVC at Oakland University in Rochester. It finished third in the Self-Drive Challenge and Fourth in the Self-Drive Design/Presentation. Six teams participated in these challenges. To learn more, click here.

The Delta Zeta Chapter of Gamma Sigma Alpha initiated more than 30 members from across three councils and 12 chapters within Kettering Fraternity and Sorority Life on June 6. Gamma Sigma Alpha National Greek Academic Honor Society accepts members of Greek organizations who have completed at least 39 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above, or students with a 3.5 GPA in any semester during their junior or senior year. Both chapters of Gamma Sigma Alpha at Kettering have been chartered for 26 years.

The Michigan Zeta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi inducted five new members May 25. Tau Beta Pi is an engineering honor society. To be eligible for membership, undergraduate students must be in the top 12.5% of their junior class or the top 20% of their senior class and exhibit exemplary character.
